Student ProjectsNatural Changes Theme In our third theme of our reading series, Natural Changes, students read many stories that connected to the environment. To connect to this theme, children wrote letters to the Rainforest Alliance asking how they can help to protect the rainforest and they also researched specific plants, animals, and the people of the rainforest. Groups of students presented these projects to the rest of the class. Click here to view some of these letters. Ancient Civilizations Mesopotamia: Students created a "Mesopotamia" time line to help learn what a time line is and what the major events and inventions occurred in the time of Mesopotamia. Past Projects
Sept./Oct./Nov. '99 Pumpkin Math: To celebrate fall and Halloween, as well as to reinforce our math skills in measurement, and estimation, students compared six different pumpkins. The most challenging part of this project was to estimate the circumference of the pumpkin. The students also measured the circumference of their heads in order to compare with the pumpkins. BioPoems: Each student wrote a "biopoem" that described an aspect of themselves in order to create a connection between our first unit in our reading series (HBJ-Signatures) called Guiding our Way and our social curriculum. This activity helped to develope self esteem and pride in who they are. Fall Sense Poems: To celebrate fall, each student brainstormed what they hear, feel, smell, taste, and see during fall. This poetry activity connected with our "senses" work in Science lab.
