Student Projects

Young Author's Book CoverYoung Author Celebration - an ongoing project created by the students in Mrs. Crowley's class. Here students, parents, and people in the community have a chance to see students work completed using the writing method and publishing a product. Its a great opportunity for parents to learn about the curriculum and to see their child's potential.

Students use the information presented in class to become "experts" in a particular area of the book created. The main goal of this project is for children to see themselves as authors and illustrators and not just as passive learners.

We hope you enjoy it!!

The Children's Voice The Children's Voice is a newspaper designed and created by Mrs. Febo's third graders and Mrs. Crowley's fourth graders. This newspaper reflect the issues, concerns and interest of the students.

All students in the school are welcomed to participate in this project and everyone gets a copy of it to read at home.

The newspaper has different sections where the students express themselves. In "The Interview Of The Month" children select an interesting person they want to interview. The section related to current events the "You Said It" column, shows the opinions of students about different topics. The "Month Book Recommendation" part, allows students to recommend a good book to the rest of the community and students in school.

Happy Valentine's Day Celebrating the Holidays Throughout the World is a project created by the students in Mrs. Crowley's Class. This interdisciplinary project combines what is learned in Social Studies (Civilizations of the World), with research.

Students are given a particular holiday and they investigate every aspect of it using various sources. They use books found in the school library, city library, parent's interview, and the internet among others.

The goal of this project is for students to gain an appreciation for different ways of living thought the world. Also, students get to see that everyone's traditions are not so different from ours.

After the research is completed, the students have a presentation for parents, and the community where they teach them about their particular holiday.

Please Note: This menu is presently under construction - We have provided some Holiday eCards for you to send and enjoy while we finish up the project and get our materials mounted to the server. Please stop back to see our "finished project"!

The Hat - By: Jan Brett

Students followed the directions for converting "The Hat" by Jan Brett into a play that they could perform in the classroom. They wrote/adjusted the dialogue, downloaded the graphics from the Jan Brett web site and presented their work for their parents at an evening meeting.

After they performed the play they wrote reactions to it using the computers in the lab and saving their files in AppleWorks so that they could be shown here on the web site.
