News & Announcements
May 28, 1998Dr. Jack Jackson, HM Inspector of Schools, in Scotland was recently invited to the United States under the auspices of the Voluntary Visitor Program of the Untied States Information Agency (USIA). While visiting here Dr. Jackson spent two weeks traveling about the country to collect information on science education and various professional development models that could be used in his native Scotland. Dr. Jackson (right) is seen here discussing the EnviroNet project at Simmons College in Boston with Paul Colombo. In their discussions a comparison was made of science backgrounds for elementary and middle school teachers both here and in Scotland. Dr. Jackson was most interested in developing a training model that would not only help teachers keep pace with technology developments but also strengthen their content area to enable them to be effective instructors of the sciences. Paul's presentation of the EnviroNet model and his professional development background was of great interest to Dr. Jackson who intends to collaborate with him in the months ahead. |
