Land and Water
The PondWatch Project is here!
Curriculum Framework Connection: The Land and Water Project follows the standards outlined in the core concept for Science and Technology. In this project students use inquiry to participate in authentic scientific investigations; apply the principles, laws, and fundamental understandings of natural sciences; use technology to share information with other student scientists; and apply their knowledge to environmental issues within their own communities.
The Project
Although not required for participation in the Land and Water monitoring project, we suggest that teachers and students use "LaMotte Hands-on Test Kit & Mini Curriculum" guides. The kits can be purchased for under $50.00 each and contain sufficient testing materials for 35-40 students. Replacement supplies can be ordered separately. The test kits also contain a step by step curriculum, teaching materials, hand outs, and lessons which teachers will find very helpful.
The kits and activities are based on real science. Although the procedures are simplified, they are similar to those used by scientists throughout the world!
In this project we will refer to:
The Pondwater Tour
The Tapwater Tour
The Topsoil Tour
Students are encouraged to send in their writings, photos, and drawings as well as their test results and observations. This monitoring project will be up and running for Fall, 1998!
