Monument for May

This monument is found in Monument Square in Leominster, Mass. It is engraved, "Honor the Brave" and has names of soldiers on each side. The two sides shown have "Ball's Bluff" and "Gettysburg" engraved on them. The monument was erected in 1866. We chose this Civil War monument for our page because Memorial Day or Decoration Day, as it was originally called, was first celebrated in the mid 1860's.
