The Mayflower School's Cranberry ProjectSouthern HouseRoom 16 Mrs. Rodriguez Lessons and Activities
Cross-curricula lessons and activities are an important part of Mrs. Rodriguez' Cranberry Unit. Activites are often inquiry based. Cranberries were chosen as a topic of study because they play an important role in the Middleboro Community. Many of the students live near bogs or have parents who own and work in the bogs.
Students participated in a hands on investigation of cranberries in the "Bog in a Cup Activity" conducted in the classroom with the support of South East Cranberry Association of Growers and a booklet of interesting activities provided by the Cape Cod Cranberry Growers' Association. Students were presented with ideas for a final project and together wrote actions plans to guide them in the completion of their projects
Students design and explain a bog. Students work in groups to discuss and edit their work. Incorporating the arts Students design a bulletin board.
