Central District Field Trip

The first group activity of the program involves taking a short school-sponsored field trip to the "downtown" area of Clinton. Here students will be taken on a directed tour of historical and interesting landmark features of our town. Mr. Terrance Ingano, a Clinton High School teacher and Clinton Historical Society director will organize and present this guided walking tour of the area.

Students will see and hear information regarding some of the important building architecture dating back to the mid-1800's. The main purpose of this tour is to see and appreciate some of the historic sites that are contained in our community.

Our tour will begin on Church Street at the Clinton Savings Bank and proceed towards Central Park. After viewing the park area we will continue along Union Street to Main Street where students will learn of the Bigelow Carpet Mills. The tour will continue towards Hamilton Square at the intersection of Main and Water Streets where students will view examples of the Railroad era of Clinton's history. From here we will continue along Water Street to High Street stopping for a view of Turini's Square.

Our tour will continue back along High Street to the point of our beginning at the Clinton Savings Bank and from here we will return to the High School.

Teacher Workshop #1

Location: Clinton High School
Room: Computer Lab F
Time: 12:30pm

Today we will discuss approaches for implementing various curricula for visual awareness and appreciation for the community. We will also look at some technical issues in relation to the Message Board System and the Virtual Post Office.

If time allows we will begin looking at the concept of web publishing along with some initial issues dealing with scanned images and html authoring with the Dreamweaver application.

September 6, 2000

We held our first organizational meeting on Wednesday, September 6, 2000 with many of the teachers after their school day to set specific dates on our proposed timeframe and discuss other project issues and concerns.

Within the next few weeks participating teachers will be investigating two Technical Bulletins from CUBE:

Model Built Environment Education Programs
A description of built environment education programs chosen to represent a variety of approaches and long-term staying power.

Evaluation of Built Environment Education in the Curriculum
A study to identify methods for integration, teaching strategies and alternative assessment for built environment education. Includes cross curricular chart.

When these have been covered students will then begin their work on various activities.

It promises to be a very exciting project ... stay tuned!
